4 x 80cm 3mm rope (use 100cm or more if you are using thicker rope)
ALTERNATIVELY – Use 8 x 80cm 3mm cords to make your keychain chunkier, treat two cords together as one and follow the same pattern.
1 x keyring, or use an alternative like shown in the video tutorial
This pattern can be used to make two designs, one made following the knot clockwise the entire way down and the other by alternating clockwise and anticlockwise the entire way down. Make sure you give both ways a try.

Don’t tighten up your square knots too quickly otherwise the middle cords will bunch up and you might think you have knotted incorrectly. Take your time and pull gently upwards to reduce the friction which causes bunching!
